I have really enjoyed watching everyone’s presentations. I like how you get to learn about what everyone else’s community is about. They are always really interesting and I enjoying hearing about the different communities that everyone in the class have worked so hard on researching and writing their inquiry paper. It is crazy to think about how fast this semester has gone by. It was such a nice feeling when i finished my inquiry paper after being so stressed out about and spending almost all of the semester researching it. My community is modern-day slavery and before I started to research it I did not know much about it. I feel like it’s a good idea to always pick something that you find interesting and that you also do not know that much about because it keeps you interested while you are also learning something new at the same time. It is always a good idea to pick something you do not know about because then you will be constantly learning new things which is something you should always do. With my community I picked I have learned so much new things I did not know before. I was not aware that human trafficking happened within the United States which I think is something most people do not fully understand themselves and that it even is happening here in Chico which is really scary to think about. And now I feel very strongly about my community and feel like I should try to educate more people on the issue because that is one of the main issues with human trafficking that many people are not aware that it is occurring.

I have learned so much this past semester in our English 130 class. This class has been very helpful in teaching me how to become a better writer. In high school I did not have very good english teachers they mainly focused on grammar which is important but it dose not teach you how to write a good paper. I feel like I have learned so much more about my writing this year and the importance of a good thesis statement in a paper. I also really liked we had to start working on our research early on in the semester because I am a really bad procrastinator and will usually wait until the last minute to start working on a paper or assignment and this makes me be productive with my research. One other thing I really found helpful in this class was the peer responses because reading other students work and correcting it not on grammar but on how well is its unity and coherence and on whether or not there paragraphs flow well with each other is not just helpful to the writer but also very helpful for the corrector as well. When your are correcting someone else’s work you learn so much more about what needs to be done in your writing. I also really like that we go to tell the students and explain to them about what we said so they can have a better understanding of what they need to fix.

I also think the e portfolios where a really good idea and I like how you can be as creative as you want. The presentation are a good way to show everyone in the class what you have been working on this semester. I found the presentations everyone has done to be very interesting too and fun to listen too!

I feel the same way! I always knew how important you thesis statement was but no one ever told me to write my thesis statement first. I always started with my introduction sentence and then wrote my thesis statement but writing your thesis statement first will be very helpful advice when I am writing other papers!

I agree with you completely I have never spend this much time working on a paper before either. I really like how we had to turn in rough drafts and doing the peer responses really helped me have a better understanding of what needed to be in our papers. I definitely feel like this class really did help my writing.

I forgot to say before about how important and helpful i found reading my peer responses. All of my group members did a really great job giving me good feedback they didn’t just critique my essay but they also gave me good ideas on what else i could do to make my paper better. With that feedback it really gives you a better idea of what you can write about especially when you have writers block or are not sure of what to write about.

I totally agree with you! I also feel like I have learned so much this year about my writing. Before this class I never realized how important unity and coherence is but now I totally understand. You cannot have a good paper if your information does not cohesive and your paragraphs need to flow well together for you to keep your reader interesting and want to keep reading.

I was also a little nervous about my peer response too. But after i turned my paper in and got my peer response back none of them were rude or anything like that everyone was nice and gave good helpful feed back. You will be surprised by how helpful their feed back will be actually. By getting four different perspective on your paper you receive so many good ideas.

I feel the same as you, this semester has gone by so quickly but I have learned so much. I also wish that i would have picked the last date too because I am a terrible procrastinator and now i am halfway done with my paper and have a ton of good ideas but have not started working on it yet. But i do feel like i have learned so much more about my writing in this class then i ever did in high school. My peer responses have given me a better idea on what needs to be fixed in my paper. Now i feel like I have a way better understanding of what ideas worked in my inquiry paper and which ones did not work. I have not yet started rewriting my inquiry paper but i have been brain storming some new ideas that my group gave me and plan on working on fixing my paper and finishing it up this week and weekend. The peer responses definitely helped me a ton with my paper. Also besides my group helping me with their peer responses but also i have learned a ton by doing peer responses they give you a better understanding of what an essay needs. What i found the most helpful with the peer responses is that they don’t just asked to grammatically edit a paper but to think deeper and look into the unity of a paper and how well their ideas fit together. These small details are what makes a paper amazing and by learning how to edit other student’s paper like this will also teach you a better way to look at your own papers from now on when editing them. Personally I now believe that after this class i have learned so much more about writing. It’s not just about the grammatical part of your writing but also about the unity and coherence without unity and coherence it does not matter how grammatically correct your paper is if it does not have unity and make sense then your readers will not be able to understand what you are writing.

Peer revisions have helped me as a writer to have a have a better understanding of what needs to be done in order to have a well put essay. Plus when you are correcting others essays you better able to understand what needs to be done for your own essay. My consultation was due last Friday the 13th and I have already received my peer revisions. They were helpful and now I feel like I have a better understanding of what I am going to be writing my inquiry paper on. Before while writing my paper I was a little confused on how I wanted to structure my paper but now after reading over my peer revisions I feel like I know what I am going to do now. My group gave me a lot of good feedback on what they felt like needed to be better explained or how they thought something sounded better over something else.

I totally agree with you peer responses are a great way to help with your paper. By getting ideas from class mates you will have a better written paper especially when it has been edited my four or five different people. Plus by doing this in class you now do not have to find someone outside of class to edit your paper.

Yesterday I finished my first peer response for my group. I hope that it is helpful to my group mate. These can be helpful or they can be useless depending on how the writer looks at them. They could take the groups advice and listen to what changes we give them or they can just ignore it and do whatever they had planned in the beginning. I hope that everyone and I know that I will be taking in all the advice my group mates give me. Today in class we will be going over our peer responses and discussing with our group on why we said what we did this I think will be very helpful to the writer. I know that I am able to express my thoughts better in words then in writing so it will be better for me to give an explanation to why I said what I did and give more reason behind my explanation. The only problems I ran into when writing my peer response was I didn’t know exactly how to start talking about some of the issues I thought needed to be fixed it was a lot harder then I thought to explain on paper for me.

Those statistics are very helpful and surprised me a little. The one of your stats that scared me the most is that most rapes happen in the victims own home. I finally found a perfect story! It is from the New York Times magazine. A women from north India was kidnapped from her village around the age of 10-11. She was then taken to a brothel with 13 other girls. She wouldn’t cooperate at first so they made her drink until she passed out and then send in a customer. The owners of the brothel also like to make the girls have children so the boys can be forced to work and the girls be prostitutes. Meena the name of the girl was forced to have children she had a girl and boy. Meena trying to keep her children safe told the police about them but they were uninterested so the owners decided that were going to kill her but she fled to the next town where she met a man who protected her. She never stopped fighting for her children though she would go over to the brothel every month and try to get them back. Then when her daughter was old enough the owners decided they were going to sell her but the brother freaked out and escaped. He then found his mother and they met up with this group in India who helps to fight against modern slavery named Apne Aap. Where they fought together to save Meena’s daughter from the brothel.

I have started to research for some personal stories about human trafficking. I have found a few but none of them are what I’m really looking for. I know I will be able to find one I just need to keep looking. I tried going on to some newspaper and magazine sites and hopefully they will have one. I will keep looking over spring break too and once I find the right one I can start writing my essay. Someone gave me a comment to use the personal story in my introduction of my essay and I think that is a really good idea and I will definitely be doing that. Since I have mainly just been looking for a personal story I have not started to look into more detail on the Act of 2000. Which I was actually think that I might start to look into later today when I am done with all my classes. I also think it might be a good idea to look up the act in some newspapers and magazines too to see what people think about it and if they think it is an effective bill or not that sounds like a good idea and I will start researching that today.

I think that would be a good idea. Having a good back ground on steroids and how they affect athletes would be very helpful. Counterarguments are always a good thing to have in your papers too.

As I start to think about how I want to write my inquiry project I’ve realize that I have many good sources but think I am going to need some more. A good source that I will be looking for would be maybe a story of someone who has been trafficked and can explain what she had to go through. I feel like that would be a good way to help people understand what problems there are with being trafficked and come to a better understanding of how sever this problem is. Another issue I would like to look more into before I can start writing is to get a better understanding of the Act passed in 2000. I do not want my understanding of that Act to be wrong because if it is then my whole paper would be wrong on its facts. And to come up with an appropriate conclusion and issue I need to fully understand it. Those are a few idem I want to look into before I begin writing over spring break.

These last few weeks I was researching human trafficking and mainly on the sex trade industry. Then for my last annotation I found an article that talked about forced domestic labor and started to think about how interesting that was. Now I am leaning towards writing my article more on forced domestic labor. I’m going to need to find some more articles about forced domestic labor now that I am done with my annotations. But I am really looking forward to researching the topic on forced labor it seems like something that not as many people know about over trafficking into the sex industry. I also feel like it is something that everyone needs to know it could be happening around where you live and you would not even notice because so many people do not know about it. Another main issue with forced domestic labor is that children are being trafficked just as much as adult and even sometimes more. Plus when they have workers the owners do not give them any medical attention when they are hurt and if it is really bad they will just leave them there to die and traffic someone else to work for them.
